About Bryony
I am a physics graduate from Australia looking to continue her studies and continue tutoring at the same time in lovely London town. I have been privately tutoring high school students since 2013, and in that time every student I have tutored has raised their average by at least one letter grade. I was also employed by the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales for as a laboratory demonstrator and teaching assistant, where I worked mostly with first year students, working through example problems and derivations with them as well as helping them collect and then interpret data from their laboratory experiments.

I base my teaching on the idea that in order to fully understand something, you must be able to explain it to someone else. I have so much experience teaching high school maths and science that I broadly know what a student of a certain year level has encountered before, and so with leading questions I can often get them to recall concepts they had learned but had forgotten or simply not thought relevant to this particular question. With high school in particular, you'd be surprised how often you actually know the answer you just weren't putting the pieces together in the right way. This means that I spend a lot of my lessons asking questions of the student, and helping them develop their own methods of solving problems or remembering ideas. If they are confused on a concept, then I do my best to explain it in a totally different way to what they might have heard before - I find this really helps if they are totally stuck in a rut and unmotivated for a certain topic.
For university, I use a similar approach, but one that does involve a little more teaching of tips and tricks that I have picked up and using those to guide the students in their learning. I still do my best to explain the concepts in a different way, but now I place as much emphasis as I can on how this relates to whatever else they are studying and interested in, as this typically makes it much easier for students to find the motivation to care about what they are learning!
