About Evie

Hello, my name is Evie! I am a 19-year-old sophomore at Las Positas College, and I’d love to help you out!

I have over 15 years of classical training in piano performance, music theory, and composition. Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I love using it as a creative outlet. I enjoy writing my own music, stories, and poetry (especially with a friend). I love being out in nature, exploring new things, and going on exciting outdoor adventures. I like to make people laugh and perform stand-up comedy as a hobby in school events. I took on ventriloquism during COVID-19, and I’m attempting to get back into it.

I am diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and OCD. Growing up with these unique experiences was very challenging, with expectations of “fitting in,” societal norms and social cues. I struggled with even the simplest of everyday chores, motivation, and a daily routine was hardly manageable. I’ve always been more drawn towards making friendships with adults, younger kids, and neurodivergent people around my age. It used to bother me a lot that I didn’t have a whole lot of friends, or people who made me feel included as one. It hasn’t always been easy, and I’ll admit I’m still working on fully embracing myself, but I’ve come a long way and I’m excited to continue growing.

I’d love to have the opportunity to be a role model, creative mentor, or friend to someone you love; whether it’s helping with homework, encouraging a child’s artistic side, or just keeping someone you love company.

About the lesson

I am a classically trained pianist who specializes in teaching children, but works well with any age group. I can teach piano for 30 minutes to an hour weekly or bi-weekly. I’d prefer to teach at home, but I can commute if necessary. I mostly provide instruction to beginning or returning students, but I can work with intermediate-advanced students as well.

I have a grand Baldwin piano and several books for music and sight reading. Please specify if you provide your own materials for lessons (like sheet music or books).

I’ll go over the lesson plan every week with students and/or parents using a musical lesson planner. I can teach group classes of 2-4 children as well. For younger learners, I have stickers and a prize box for a reward system, as well as games and activities to help understand the material.

I tailor every lesson to each student's skills and interests. For example, if a student is already skilled in another instrument and knows music theory, we can go straight into piano technique or composition.
