About Aaron
I moved to Stafford from Seattle, WA, USA in September of 2021 and I love it here!
I have learned so much about music and teaching itself just from being a teacher to hundreds of students. Although there are many universals when it comes to education and music education specifically, it has been my experience that everyone learns differently.
First lessons with me are about establishing where you are at with your instrument(s), what your goals are, and making a plan to get you there. We will always be building off of what you already know, even if you are a complete beginner.
Having taught so many different types of students with such a wide variety of skill levels, interests, and goals, my teaching style has become one of patience, flexibility, and highly-focused observation. In turn, I seek to pass these skills on to my students so that their practice sessions can be as productive as possible.
Ultimately, I aim to give everything I possibly can to the student so that the student can then go out "fend for themselves" in the world of music. This could take weeks, or months, or years, and I will be there for you, as much as you desire, every step of the way.

Music should be fun. Otherwise, what's the point? This is my teaching philosophy as well as my professional performer philosophy. Although music is an expression of all nameable and unnameable emotions, it is the joy of music that is both the means and the ends.
Lessons with me are about setting your own goals and moving at your own pace. Of course you will progress faster if you are practicing every day, however, I believe in letting my students decide what progress feels like and what success looks like. I believe in letting my students decide what type(s) of music they want to study and which songs - so long as there is a moderate challenge involved!
It has been my experience that 1-hour lessons are ideal for my students. That said, I know not everyone wants to spend that long in a lesson, so 45-minute lessons and 30-minute lessons are also available.
I started teaching at The School of Rock, Seattle in 2009. They hired me as a voice and keyboard instructor, but I was soon directing shows, directing the choir, and subbing for guitar and bass lessons. A few years later I began giving private lessons out of my home in piano, voice, guitar, bass, ukulele, theory, songwriting, and composition. This has been my primary source of income for these past 13 years. I also perform regularly as a solo pianist/vocalist as well as a solo guitarist/vocalist and I compose original songs and instrumentals constantly.
For all instruments and styles, I teach beginner through intermediate. 5 years of age is usually my minimum starting age, but students will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with ability to focus through the entire lesson as the primary criterion. Whether you are hoping to make a career out of music, or just hoping to be able to perform a song or two, I am overjoyed to be a part of your musical journey!
