About Jimmy
I studied trumpet performance for 3 years at Georgia Southern University under Dr. Bill Schmid, a University of North Texas graduate. While there, I played with the top jazz ensemble, w/ guest artists like Tom "Bones" Malone and Jon Faddis, as well as an orchestra, jazz combos, brass quintets, with various church worship bands, a funk band, a symphonic wind ensemble, and a trumpet ensemble. I've also played at weddings and funerals and am a floating musician on my church's worship team (piano, drum set, bass guitar, trumpet, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, saxophone, etc., or wherever I'm needed). I've had 10 years of piano education (7 years before college and 3 in college). I can also play/teach piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, and cornet. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia alumnus of the Zeta Omicron chapter and member of the International Trumpet Guild.

I'm a down-to-Earth type of teacher with a sense of humor. I can teach trumpet from a complete beginner trumpet player or comeback player up through high school graduates looking to audition for college, beginning piano, basic music reading, music theory, and ear training up through advanced harmony like jazz harmony/theory, orchestration, analysis, and improvisation. My teaching style is relaxed, slow and gradual, and deliberate, each new lesson building upon the last lesson, so I expect my students to practice their assigned materials and be prepared, to the best of their abilities, for each lesson. Learning to read and play music is a gradual process, so I will not assign very much, but I do require students to practice at least 30 minutes per day leading up to the next lesson. There is no need to purchase books as Iwill provide all materials for you in either digital or photocopied format, but if you would like to purchase books, I encourage you to do so, and will be happy to provide you with resources on where to purchase the materials. If you are a complete beginner, do not fear, you will not need to perform the preliminary evaluation that more advanced players will be required to do. For the advanced players, do not panic, as I will not make you play all 12 majors, all 36 minors, all 12 whole tones, and all 24 diminished at 300bpm, transcribe every part from Don Ellis's "Bulgarian Bulge," play just the first 2 measures of Vizzutti's "The Carnival of Venus," without fracking anything in the upper tessitura, perform "Kryl" by Erickson with perfect technical prowess, scream out a super C, etc. Information on preliminary evaluation requirements will be provided via messaging. The reason for the preliminary evaluation isn't to dishearten or to discourage you, but it is a tool for me, to better help me to tailor my lesson plans to each one of my individual students' needs and individual goals. Lessons will, of course, be tailored even further for each of the different kind of lesson (more learning and writing for theory class, more dictation for ear training class, more actual playing for trumpet class, etc.) Classes can be modified to include several different categories, as well (for instance: a high school grad wanting to understand basic ear training, piano, and theory before collegiate trumpet auditions). We can do several different combinations of different categories. The structure of each lesson will account for several different aspects of each category being taught (For example: several aspects of trumpet playing, from flexibility to dexterity, air, and tone production may all be equally touched upon for each lesson). I am here to help you achieve your musical goals, not to discourage you from learning music or honing your abilities. I don't bite, honest! Please message me and let's talk about how we can work together and how I can help you achieve your musical goals. Don't delay, message me today!
