About Phil
I am a drummer with approximately 20 years of playing experience (touring rock and pop artists, function and cover bands, theatre shows and studio sessions) and 15 years in teaching, both privately and in schools/ colleges.
I have a BA (Hons) degree from Wolverhampton University after studying at the Academy of Music & Sound (Gateshead) where I also spent time as a drum lecturer delivering drum tuition to the BTEC level students.
I have also worked with Durham County Council Music Service, Drumshop UK, South Tyneside College, The Custom Space and other tuition providers as well as my own private tuition. I currently run lessons from my own studio in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

My lessons are tailored toward the individual students needs and particular goals. For beginners who need guidance in all aspects of their playing, I balance out areas of study spending time on kit playing, technical exercises and theory based learning. I encourage my students to play music as much as possible to keep things relevant and fun!
I make regular assessments of each students playing and advise on what they should focus on in order to improve, as well as suggesting and demonstrating useful practice methods.
Kit playing, sight reading and music theory, rudiments and hand technique, learning and understanding songs, studying various popular drummers are all just a few topics that I cover!
