About Billy

I am a Professional Musician living in LA with 17 years of professional experience. My instrument proficiency includes piano/keyboard, vocals, guitar, as well as experience with bass, ukulele, and various smaller instruments. I have much experience in songwriting, producing, performing, studio engineering, mixing, and live-band leading. Music theory understanding remains one of my continued passions.

My experience extends to my time not only with real-life experience but also in school being top of my class performing/touring with our college band and getting my degree in songwriting at the Los Angeles College Of Music. I continue to work as a musician by performing at festivals, corporate events, showcase events. Being a recording artist/hired-musician is a part of what I do as well by learning material, showing up to record my parts, and having the vocabulary to bring musical ideas to the studio.

I work as a songwriter as well, writing music for TV/Film understanding how to craft a song, record it, produce it, mix it, master it, and understanding how to distribute and publish it with the business side of music. I have been teaching music for 17 years as well and take pride in my students' progress. Aside from my levels of music, I love being a musician and discovering more about the musical world. I take pride in being a "forever student" in music.

I prefer a more in-depth approach to understanding our craft. Technique, skill-building, music theory understanding, and being goal-oriented are very important to growth with our instruments but I also take into account our own personal musical journeys. A goal of mine with every student is to not only understand their instrument, but also to cater our practice and education towards the student's creative, professional, and more personal sometimes fun-based goals. As a working pro myself, it's very important to make sure your progress aligns with your goals.

My lesson plans will start with a breakdown of what the student's goals are as well as a current-skill level assessment. Starting brand new is never an issue as music belongs to us all. We will discuss the fundamentals of our instruments and how to best succeed in our progress as well as dive into how they work to better understand our craft. Continuing to build towards our goals is very important whether that's learning a new song, performance techniques, talking about how to improve or celebrating the small wins in a big plan. Each lesson will conclude with a plan of practice and how to set ourselves up for the best way to do so shaped to our schedules/lifestyles/goals. I believe the best way to practice is to find a way to enjoy our practice and have pride in the progress it reflects. It's why I often end my lessons saying "enjoy your practice" instead of seeing it as something we dread.

These lessons are for those that wish to upgrade their current level to a working pro and gain real experience. They are for those who have a goal of better understanding their instrument to feel pride in performing for themselves or others. They are for those that wish to learn different genres or wish to learn more about a career in music. These lessons are also for those curious about the musical world and wish to just have fun learning something fun. Music belongs to us all.
