About Corey
I'm a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing music since I was five — decades of experience across piano, guitar, percussion (orchestral and drum kit), electric bass, and vocals. I hold a music degree in Jazz guitar and a Bachelor of Education, and I'm certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.
I've performed at private and corporate events, music festivals including Toronto Afrofest, and Toronto venues like The Rex Hotel. I've also played pit band productions across the Peel and Halton area.
On the teaching side, I've taught across multiple studios, and I bring that experience into a well-equipped virtual teaching setup for students who prefer to learn online. I came to teaching after a career as a working musician, not straight out of an undergraduate program, and that's the perspective I bring to every lesson.

Lesson structure varies as much as the students do.
Are you preparing for an RCM exam? Learning a song for your wedding? A complete beginner, or returning to piano after years away?
We start by figuring out your goals and building a strategy to get there, so every first lesson looks a little different.
A typical lesson centers on repertoire, using the pieces you're learning to teach core musical concepts that apply universally. I do use technical method books (Hanon, for example), to build essential dexterity, but I also believe technique should grow out of real music. A lot of my teaching is about getting students past the page: reading a bar or two to get the pattern, then playing the rest from understanding rather than decoding. It's the difference between playing Chopin and playing like Chopin.
