About Kevin

My music experience started when I was three years old. I started learning classical piano together with my older sister and found my passion in music ever since. I branched out into learning contemporary pop style piano accompaniment as I grew up. I had always loved singing but did not have the chance to sing professionally until I went to college. I was born in Indonesia but I moved to the States when I began attending college. I went to the University of Southern California and got my Bachelor Degree in Business. During my time there, I exposed myself to a wide variety of musical experience. I have sung with many ensembles and got myself singing with professional choirs. I have a list of all the songs that I have sung in choral setting in the past seven years. I can send it to you if you'd like! Just send me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible! Beside my choral experience, I am also a singer-songwriter. I have published two EPs in the past couple years and is on the way to my next one now!

I give voice lessons to beginner and intermediate level students. If you're just starting and you feel like you don't know anything about music at all... don't despair! Just hit me up! There is nothing more rewarding for me than being able to help someone taking their first step into the music world!

I can help you find your comfortable singing range, extend it, and access different registers that you have. Optional: I can also help you to read music, understand music theory, and any other basic things you need to know about music in general. I am a very practical person. I learned everything by doing. I won't spend too much time discussing terms or rules. Singing is like exercising. It is about building all the different muscles in your body to produce the voice that you are looking for. To build those muscles, it takes repetitions, routines and dedications to constantly wanting to improve your skills.

One of the problems that I have encountered the most with singers is transition. Regardless of what you are singing, it is crucial to know when to transition your registers so you can reach every note seamlessly without hurting your vocal cords. Even though there is no correct way of singing, my principle of the most appropriate way to sing is that it should not hurt you.

Two things that always help me generally as a singer to sing are breathing technique and posture. You always want to make sure to have strong breath support whenever you sing and double check your body posture before you sing. After all, our voice is also a music instrument. As any other music instrument there is, a sturdy structure is needed for the instrument to produce the sound that they are built for.

I believe in case-by-case basis types of lesson. There is no one golden rule on how to sing better. Every person's voice is different. There are multiple ways of singing depending on the styles that you want to learn. The job of a vocal coach is to assist and guide you in finding what works best for what you have and how to utilize your resources in the most appropriate way.

I remember a friend of mine mentioned a quote by Aristotle, "the proof that you know something is that you are able to teach it." That quote has become a principle in my life of the reason why I would like to teach. It keeps me motivated and most importantly, it is one of the passions that I have! So, let us try to work our best together and push ourselves beyond our limits!
