I have had the pleasure of knowing Colin since he was 13 years old. Since that time, he has shown tremendous loyalty, growth and determination in his highschool and college career. His passion and enthusiasm is unwavering. I know he will be an excellent tutor and mentor to any young person, as he is knowledgeable, relatable and patient!

Colin has worked in various teaching and leadership positions throughout his career. He has personally helped me me with coding work, walking me through step by step to really make sure that I understand what I’m doing. Colin is dedicated to helping others learn and is patient and persistent in the pursuit. He goes above and beyond to help others, and everybody I know who has worked with Colin has truly benefited from his knowledge, expertise, and care for others.

Colin and I have worked together in campus ministry at Purdue. He delights in encouraging the success of others. He will invest in you as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort. He has a great sense of humor, and he uses many different approaches to the same challenges so that he will appeal to many different people. Colin knows his stuff, especially in Statistics and Mathematics (through Calculus). You will be blessed to have him as your tutor.

Colin and I went to Purdue together for undergrad. During that time, beyond being friends, we also worked together as teaching assistants for the introductory computer science course. He was able to articulate complex topics in a way that new students were able to comprehend and excel in their coursework. Colin is kind and patient, and he never made students feel poorly about their progress or work. Instead, he fully embraced that not every student learns the same way, and he helped work with students closely one-on-one to work through problems and topics together. Colin is truly one of the most talented teachers I have worked with.

Colin has been successful in teaching and coaching at many levels: He has served as a facilitator for new computer science students starting at Purdue ensuring their skills were up to speed to ensure success, he has served as a teaching assistant to computer science classes, and he teaches classes to younger children at his church. In all these interactions he is displays the traits of a good teacher/tutor: he is a good listener, he validates understanding, and displays great patience until his student displays understanding.

Colin genuinely cares about each and every person he meets. No one is ever too much for him, and he will do everything in his power to help someone in need. Colin is kind, patient, and finds a way to connect with everyone. He will be able to recognize each individual’s needs and personalize his lessons towards them, so no student will ever be overlooked or feel forgotten about.

Colin exemplifies care for individuals first and foremost, and is therefore well-equipped to not only be trusted to serve the individual needs of his students but also to gain the trust of his students. Colin is willing to give a little more than what is expected of him as well, even when it may be inconvenient, to excel in instructing others as necessary.

From my experience working with and under Colin Hayes, I am confident that he is a trustworthy teacher. He serves as the Confirmation Intern at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center, meaning he leads both the Confirmation students and the other Confirmation teachers. I serve as one of the other Confirmation teachers, and with Colin as my leader, I can always count on effective communication and constant innovation within the classroom. Additionally, he prioritizes efficient technological usage.
