About Viveka

Hello, my name is Viveka.

As a qualified and experienced teacher of Philosophy, I can help you with any Philosophy related A-level or GCSE (philosophy, religion, ethics, critical thinking etc)

My speciality is AQA A-level Philosophy, but I can teach any exam board or specification.

Professional qualifications aside, I love teaching Philosophy because it's a subject that I love. I read widely, and I'm always looking for a chance to learn more about any area of Philosophy. The advantage of tutoring over classroom teaching is the focus on the individual student, which allows time and space to foster an enthusiasm for the subject as a whole. I always try my best to pass my fascination with Philosophy to my students.

I studied Philosophy and German (BA) at the University of Oxford. Within Philosophy, I specialised in Plato, Aquinas (medieval Christian thought), Post-Kantian Philosophers, aesthetics and I wrote my dissertation on C.G. Jung, specifically on his mysterious work 'The Red Book'.

I also studied general philosophy, ethics, epistemology and philosophical logic.

About the lesson

Depending on the needs of the student, I can teach content from scratch, revise topics or work on exam techniques. I will plan sessions that address whatever the student most struggles with or wants to improve.

I enjoy teaching essay writing, and I believe that any student can be taught the knack of writing a good essay. I help my students to discover the joy of putting down their thoughts in a structured and logical way.

My main strength is my ability to explain complex ideas simply, and I will happily look for new ways of explaining a tricky concept until it makes full sense to the student.

I can also provide less exam focussed tutoring sessions, for those who wish to broaden or deepen their subject knowledge, or apply for University courses in the subject. In these sessions, we might discuss a reading or explore a philosophical question that captures the interest of the student.

I can also give practice interviews, and work on admissions tests for University entrance.
