About Callia
My name is Callia Lawrence and I am a qualified teacher. I studied for 3 years at University with my subject specialism being maths. I come from a poor working class family, and it was difficult growing up. My mum was a single parent who had to work multiple jobs to help us get by and couldn't help me with my homework very often. In school I was very quiet and lacked the confidence of my classmates whose family lives were a lot different from mine. However despite all of this, I could count on my class teachers to brighten up my day. When I begin secondary school, I had a fantastic maths teacher who would always make jokes and teach maths in way that made it more interactive and exciting. I want to create the same experience for today's children.

My approach to teaching Maths is based around developing maths mastery. Maths mastery is a teaching and learning approach that aims for pupils to develop deep understanding of maths rather than being able to memorise key procedures or resort to rote learning. My lessons embed this key theory through utilising practical and engaging lessons where maths can be transferred into long term memory.
