I teach fun and interactive lessons in a relaxed, play-based environment. I use a variety of educational games and activities and I have two puppets called Buttons and Kiki, who are always popular with the younger children. I tailor lessons according to the individual needs, interests and goals the student has, which we can discuss. During the trial lesson, we can get to know each other and see if we are a good match. I will also do a brief assessment to get an idea of the student's level.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak English fluently because I was born in England in the UK and have lived here all my life.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Queen Elizabeth II is a great representative as she was the second longest reigning Monarch, but sadly died in 2022.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

Many English-speaking natives celebrate Christmas in December by putting up a Christmas tree, singing carols and exchanging gifts. I particularly like Christmas because it makes lots of people happy and joyous and is a special time to spend with family and close friends.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking English matters to me because it allows me to communicate in all Countries which use the language. It allows me to teach people from other Countries who want to learn English through a native speaker.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The English language includes an alphabet and sounds, which Countries such as China are not used to, as they use a character-based system. There are also lots of irregularities in English, for example, irregular verbs. Phonics really help with learning sounds in the language, and there many different interactive ways that you can learn the irregular verbs, along with lots of practice.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

At school, I struggled with maths a lot. I also didn't enjoy physical education as I have poor co-ordination. However, I was always smart at English, and used to score very highly in spelling tests. So much so, that my friend used to always ask me how to spell things.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

As I am a native speaker, there is not a specific trip that has increased my skills and knowledge of English. However, the TEFL course I did to become a certified teacher really helped me to understand my own language more and realise the difficulties that non-native speakers face when trying to learn English. As a native speaker, there's a lot that we just know and don't think about, but if it's not your first language, there is a lot to think about and learn.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

Firstly, being a native English speaker shows how well I can speak and understand the language. I have a TEFL certificate with a specialisation in online teaching, and a certificate for teaching English to young learners. I then got extra qualifications in using games in the online classroom with young learners and teaching English online to groups. I have taught English to students from many different Countries including Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Japan, India and Saudi Arabia. I am very passionate about my teaching and find it a rewarding job.
