About John
I am a graded "outstanding" qualified geography teacher (KS3-KS5) with a PhD in experimental glaciological geophysics. I've taught geography and history in three separate schools during my training, and have lectured geography and glaciology at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Russell Group universities.
I have taught and mentored hundreds of students, facilitating high academic achievement and engagement, along with the acquisition of a broader skill base in skills such as research, writing, revision, note-taking, presentation and organisation.

My students have stated that I am approachable and relaxed. I always base lessons on the learning style of the student concerned.
I am particularly interested in breaking down complex concepts into familiar language, establishing a core framework of understanding, and reintroducing appropriate vocabulary and complications at the right pace for each student. This ensures deep learning, rather than superficial memorisation of facts.
Lessons are all bespoke, involving practical skills, experimentation, numeracy and literacy, case-study construction, and exam technique. They are tailored to the students' knowledge, experience, learning style and interests.
