About Christopher
Hello. My name is Chris and I am a Reading and ESL tutor. My background is in Business, Human Resources and Education. I believe short, targeted lessons make the most impact. Students are able to remain focused throughout the entire lesson and maximize retention. In my free time I volunteer at a local animal shelter and have four dogs of my own.

Read to Shine is a one-on-one, 20-minute reading tutoring session tailored to meet your child’s unique learning needs. Designed for children ages 5 to 15, this class supports students at all reading levels—from beginning readers just learning phonics to older learners working on fluency, comprehension, or vocabulary development. Our mission is to boost confidence, build critical reading skills, and help every learner shine through personalized support. What Will Be Taught? Each child receives customized instruction based on their current reading level, goals, and learning style. Lessons focus on one or more of the following core areas: Phonemic awareness Phonics and decoding Sight word recognition Fluency and pacing Vocabulary development Reading comprehension strategies Reading with expression and confidence Topics We'll Cover Beginning readers (ages 5–7) will explore letter sounds, blending, segmenting, and sight words. Emerging readers (ages 7–10) will strengthen decoding skills, practice fluency, and begin identifying main ideas, characters, and basic plot structures. Confident readers (ages 10–15) will work on deeper comprehension strategies like summarizing, inferencing, identifying author’s purpose, comparing texts, and building vocabulary. How Is the Class Structured? Each 20-minute session includes: 5 minutes of warm-up: friendly greetings, general conversation to build rapport, and a check-in on progress or goals. 15 minutes of focused, skill-building instruction using age-appropriate activities, stories, and strategies. Sessions are engaging, interactive, and paced to match each child’s learning tempo. How Will I Teach? Instruction is individualized and adaptive. I use: Real-time reading practice with feedback Decodable texts and leveled readers Interactive phonics games and activities Guided discussion questions to support comprehension Optional screen-shared slides or digital whiteboard tools to demonstrate concepts visually
