I have 2 English degrees (MA and BA); these programs have encouraged me to build a teaching philosophy and figure out what matters to me. I build professional one-on-one relationships with students and take my time to build a thorough understanding of the material. I want my students to build transferrable skills and tricks they can take with them in their future. This applies to any level of education, as I scaffold techniques and tracks based off of what the students already know to help them meet their goals. I like to ask my students if what I am saying makes sense and encourage them to be honest and say "No." when it doesn't; from there, I try to explain the concept differently. I like to keep open communication and love when students ask questions and show interest!
