About Laurence
Most of my professional work has been for developers and manufacturers of large rotating equipment (turbines, compressors, generators) for electric utilities. My principal tasks involved mathematically modeling physical systems for stress analysis and vibration. Additionally, I have experience teaching as an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University and at the University of Central Florida.

I could classify my teaching methods as what some might call "old school," but I would call them "teacher centered." I like to provide lecture, discussion and demonstration materials to the students, but as I learned from my own technical education, the students should be required to develop and demonstrate their skills through periodic problem sets that are collected and returned as valuable feedback.
