My first question to my student is: "What is the objective of your studies and my tutoring?" It can be the EGE exam in Russia, it can be the SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT, or anythong else, but the student must know what he is going to achieve in this course. Then we agree about the textbook and then I say to my student: "The cowboy once said - I can bring my horse to the river, I can even take a bucket of water and put the bucket in front of him, but drink this water he must HIMSELF !" Some students drink the knowledge themselves, other students hope that the teacher will do the drinking for them.
