About Ellie
I’m originally from Liverpool and trained in Musical Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I graduated and went straight into the industry — becoming the youngest ever host of Magic Mike Live, a role that required live stand-up, improvisation and the ability to think (and recover!) on my feet in front of a very lively audience.
Since then, I’ve worked across theatre, television and musical theatre. Playing Rita in Educating Rita, numerous roles at Liverpool’s Royal Court, appeared in pantomimes, played Claire Fox in CBBC’s So Awkward as well as in the feature-length film So Awkward: Kids Camp.
My training gave me a strong technical foundation, and my professional work has sharpened my instincts, discipline and adaptability.
Alongside performing, I’ve also sat in on musical theatre auditions, which has given me real insight into what creative teams are actually looking for — and just as importantly, what makes them switch off. I understand the difference between something that feels prepared and something that feels alive, and I know how quickly panels form an impression.
I remember how overwhelming this industry can feel when you’re trying to navigate it alone. Drama school auditions in particular can seem mysterious if you don’t know what’s expected. Having trained at a leading conservatoire and built a career from it, I understand both sides of the room.
Over time, I’ve developed a strong instinct for what feels truthful and what feels “performed.” I can quickly spot when something isn’t landing — and more importantly, I know how to help you adjust it in a way that feels authentic, not forced. My aim is to help you become a more confident, grounded and specific version of yourself.

I tailor every session to the individual. Whether you’re preparing for drama school auditions, working on a self-tape for TV, or developing acting through song, we focus on clear choices, grounded performances and techniques you can use independently in future auditions.
A typical session lasts 60–90 minutes. We usually begin with a short check-in and warm-up, then dive into text work. I’ll guide you through detailed script analysis, explore different playable options, and help you refine your performance so it feels alive rather than rehearsed. You’ll leave with clear, actionable notes — not just “that was good” or “try it again.”
For drama school applicants, I also support with:
• Monologue selection and cutting
• Recall preparation
• Audition mindset and panel room technique
• Building consistency under pressure
For TV and film actors, we focus on:
• Naturalistic screen acting
• Eyelines, framing and stillness
• Self-tape technique that looks professional and connected
My lessons are suitable for:
• Drama school applicants (16+)
• Aspiring professional actors
• Performers preparing auditions
• Students wanting to build confidence and technique
• Musical theatre performers working on acting through song

I’d highly recommend Ellie to anyone serious about improving their acting. I first met her when she cast me in a play that she also directed, and from the start it was clear I was working with someone who really understands both the craft and the industry.
From the outset, she created a focused but relaxed environment where I felt comfortable taking risks and pushing myself. What stood out most was her ability to give clear, practical direction without ever making things feel forced or overcomplicated. She has a great instinct for breaking down scenes and helping you find truthful, grounded choices that actually connect. Every session felt purposeful, and I always left feeling inspired with something concrete to work on.
She’s also brilliant at tailoring her approach to you as an individual—whether that’s working on text, emotional accessibility, or building confidence in your instincts. As someone aiming for professional TV and film work, I found her guidance especially valuable in keeping performances natural and authentic.
Overall, a genuinely supportive, insightful teacher who knows how to get the best out of you. I’ve seen a real difference in my work since training with her.
C xI honestly can’t recommend Ellie enough! She helped me get into my dream drama school and I couldn’t have done it without her. I didn’t know where to start with picking audition pieces, but Ellie saved the day. She offered amazing suggestions that really suited my voice and casting type.
She knows so much about what drama schools are actually looking for and what panels want to see, which made such a difference in the run-up to auditions. She helped me with both my acting pieces and songs, and I felt so much more confident going in.
On top of that, she’s just the loveliest person – kind, supportive, and genuinely hilarious. Lessons were always fun and never felt stressful.
Thanks to Ellie’s guidance, I ended up getting into one of the UK’s top drama schools, which still feels unreal!
I’ve already recommended her to loads of my friends at college and they all love her too. Honestly, if you’re applying to drama school or need help with audition material, Ellie is the one!!
Thank you Ellie !!! ️Couldn’t recommend Ellie highly enough. She gave me audition advice and help with self tapes. The insights she had to what makes auditions successful and how to prepare was invaluable. She’s approachable, professional, warm and her passion is infectious. Any student would be lucky to work with her.
Ellie is a genuinely lovely actress, and you can really feel how much she cares about helping others grow. She has a natural way of sharing little tips and tricks that don’t feel overwhelming—just really helpful, especially if you’re still finding your confidence.
She helped me prepare for a theatre audition, and honestly, I walked in feeling so much calmer and more sure of myself than I normally would. That shift made all the difference—I ended up landing the role!
She’s encouraging, down-to-earth, and easy to work with. I’d happily recommend her to anyone starting out, auditioning for drama school or just needing a bit of guidance.I work as an audition panelist for Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, so I see a lot of applicants each year, and I can honestly say that Ellie’s teaching really develops the kind of candidates who are right for the course and stand out in auditions.
Ellie is an incredible, thoughtful and empathetic teacher who has a clear understanding of the process. She is the type of teacher, and friend, who allows you to feel comfortable and at ease, which is so important for growing as an actor.
I had the honor of working with Ellie on set for 2 seasons on a show called So Awkward Academy, and was inspired everyday by her. Her approach to acting is refreshing, and her ability is astonishing!!
Ellie was also able to coach me for an audition I had for a principal role in a West End musical. As an actor, I have no experience in Musical Theatre at all, but was still able to make it to the final round of recalls with her help. So I can confidently say: You are in good hands!!I’ve had the pleasure of being taught by Ellie Clayton for the past 6 months, and since then my confidence has improved so much, as a result I’ve booked jobs with the RSC and Shakespeares Globe, through Ellie helping me with my audition material. She’s super clear and adaptable to different kinds of auditioning. From musical theatre through to Shakespeare. Would 100% recommend.
Ellie was absolutely amazing and help me so much with a monologue I was preparing for an audition! She gave me lots of advice and made me so much more confident with the piece! I’d 100% recommend her, she’s the best!
