About Elena

Online lessons only.

I am a concert pianist and piano teacher with a strong Russian classical background, teaching in English.

My training includes the Moscow Conservatory College and the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, including postgraduate study. I also taught at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. Alongside teaching, I have maintained an active performing life through concerts, chamber music, recordings, competitions, masterclasses and international artistic projects.

I am a laureate of international competitions, and my performing experience continues to shape the way I teach. It gives me a clearer sense of what makes music convincing: not only technical control, but sound, structure, timing, phrasing, character and meaning.

Over the years, I have worked with adult learners, returning pianists, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for exams and performance goals. Some come to build a serious foundation. Some return to the instrument after a long break. Some want to move beyond fragmented study and finally understand how music works from within.

My teaching is rooted in the Russian classical tradition, with its emphasis on listening, sound quality, technical clarity, musical thinking and artistic depth. I work best with thoughtful students and families who value serious teaching, long-term progress and a more intelligent relationship with music.

I teach piano as a serious long-term discipline, not as a loose collection of separate skills. Reading, rhythm, coordination, sound, technique, memory, structure and expression must gradually come together, so that the student learns not only to play more securely, but also to think, hear and practise more independently.

A central part of my work is helping students practise in a more intelligent way. Many students spend a great deal of time at the instrument, but progress remains slow because they do not clearly understand what needs to be solved first, why a problem appears, or how to work on it in a way that leads to real musical development. I help students build a clearer and more effective relationship with practice, where the work becomes more focused, more conscious and more musically meaningful.

My aim is not simply to correct mistakes, but to help the student build a reliable foundation. This includes technical clarity, rhythmic stability, stronger reading, better listening, a more organised sense of structure, and a more convincing musical response. In the long run, the goal is always greater independence: a student who understands more, hears more, and can do more without constant external prompting.

I work with adult beginners, returning adults, motivated teenagers, and students preparing for exams, performances or more demanding repertoire. The level and pace naturally differ, but the principle remains the same: depth before superficial fluency, understanding before mechanical habit, and real musical development rather than fragmented progress.

A first lesson may be used as a diagnostic session. I assess the student’s current level, main strengths, gaps, habits and priorities, and from there define the most productive direction of work.

Additional one-off formats are also available for students who need focused professional input before committing to regular lessons: – diagnostic lesson
– video assessment
– consultation on practice strategy or repertoire direction

Regular weekly places are limited.
