About Sam
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked privately as a guitar teacher since 2007. Between 2011 and 2015 I worked for North London Music Centre and Herts Music Centre as a Guitar and Bass Tutor and repair technician. In tandem to this I worked for a company called Music Unlimited, delivering music workshops for children and adults with learning and physical complex needs. Through this service, I worked in schools, day care centres, care homes and hospital settings. The workshops were run on a group and one to one basis, creating music using instruments and computer software.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up to date DBS certificate and have undertaken several modules over the years on safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained in London at Tech Schools (Drumtech, Guitar-X) under excellent tutors; John Wheatcroft, Jim Clarke, Ian Scott, Steve Alsworth and Femi Temowo.
Tech Schools is now part of BIMM.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of The Musician's Union
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently have private students based in West and North London and run music workshops for a SEN group in Finchley.
My younger students are either preparing for grades, or learning for fun. My older students are learning for their own enjoyment.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to offer lessons by video call, such as Skype or Facetime.
Lessons must be paid in advance and players who have some experience are likely to be more suited to video lessons.
I can also offer a mix of face to face and video lessons to supplement if meeting weekly is logistically difficult.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I feel I have a passion for teaching and helping people learn and develop to meet their musical goals, whether that be to learn your favourite songs, to write and record your own material or get to a level where you can join or form a band and play live.
Grades are a great way to set goals and bring structure to your learning path; these can form the backbone of a greater musical journey. However, there are many ways to learn to play. I aim to work with each of my students to find out what works best for you as an individual.
Playing, writing and recording music have always been a huge part of my life and it's a pleasure to work with others to help them realise their own creative talents.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Sam's talent and expertise is matched only by his attentiveness. He has a very personal approach, not only teaching me the basics but also tailoring lessons to my favourite genres. He is patient and has been encouraging throughout every lesson.
I could not recommend him enough! My first ever guitar lesson! Nervous at first but straight away Sam made me feel at ease, no question was silly or too much. His passion for music comes across in his teaching which makes it so enjoyable! Would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you Sam!
Learning with Sam was the best. Not only did he help guide me with patience and knowledge, he included my own personal musical tastes in order to make the beginning of learning guitar much more interesting. Highly recommend learning with Sam, he knows everything and more about the guitar and how to help you personally develop.
A pleasure to learn with. Sam is very personable and his approach to teaching makes lessons very enjoyable. He is hugely experienced in various genres of music and doesn't pigeonhole you to play a certain way, instead giving a very student focused lesson. Would highly recommend Sam to anyone.
Only good things to say. Sam has been super easy to learn with. The lessons are structured really well and have been great at giving me a bit more confidence in learning a new instrument. a nice balance between theory and practical aspects which move along at a nice pace without feeling overwhelming. Highly recommend if you are looking to brush up on your skills or learn from scratch as I have been doing!
Learning with Sam has been a breeze, offering instinctive lessons that are shaped to the individual player as opposed to broadly teaching the basics. His grasp of theory and technique is outstanding and he made me feel at ease very quickly. Great set up for all players of all skill levels and backgrounds and very patient
Sam is an awesome teacher. Despite my musical ineptness, Sam was able to tutor my clumsy fingers to learn basic cords and play a couple songs.
Each session was really well structured and catered to what I wanted to learn. A good balance of theory and practice.
I highly recommend the experience.View more recommendations
