My pedagogy is very student-centred; I approach my teaching according to individual student needs. If a student needs help in structuring or adding textual evidence an essay, I can do that. If they need assistance 'cleaning up' their grammar or discussing meaning in texts I am enthusiastic and highly capable.
I am a teacher at college and university for English Literature, EAD/D and general English. At university, I have taught Aboriginal studies, literacy, teacher education and literature for children. Currently I teach English Literature (ranging from Shakespeare to modern Australian) in a senior college.
I hold a PhD in semiotics and postcolonial studies as well as an Master of Arts in Australian Literature (specifically Tim Winton) and Philosophy. I hold a Master of Education in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have taught at secondary and tertiary level for many years, including in teacher education and literacy in three states of Australia . I am currently completing a 2nd PhD in politics. I am very well travelled (for example my doctoral studies took me to Botswana in Africa several times to work with a marginalised ethnic minority in the Kalahari desert) and my experiences are often referenced to illustrate a point in teaching. This also means that I have enhanced inter-cultural awareness which gives me sensitivity towards those who struggle with English and who have a diversity of educational experiences and values. At present I teach Legal Studies and English Literature in a senior college and I enjoy teaching immensely.
