About Janaun

Welcome! As an artist who has successfully navigated the journey of creating and self-publishing original graphic novels, I bring both practical creative experience and a structured, reliable approach to our lessons. Having taught art out of my home studio for three years, I understand how to create an inviting, safe, and professional learning environment where students feel confident exploring their creativity. I treat your artistic goals with the utmost respect and dedication. When you study with me, you are partnering with an organized, punctual, and highly encouraging mentor who is committed to helping you develop real, tangible skills at your own pace.
My background in independent publishing and freelance illustration ensures that you are learning relevant, real-world techniques. Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time or wanting to master digital workflows in Adobe Photoshop, I pride myself on clear communication and a patient, student-led teaching philosophy. I take great care to ensure our sessions are well-planned, responsive to your daily goals, and strictly professional. Together, we will demystify the drawing process, build your artistic confidence, and turn your creative visions into finished pieces of art you can be incredibly proud of.

About the lesson

About the Class and My Approach

My art lessons focus on the foundational principles of drawing, freelance illustration, and visual storytelling across both traditional and digital mediums. Having taught art out of my home studio for three years, my approach is highly supportive, personalized, and patient. Rather than forcing you into a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, my teaching style is completely responsive to your immediate needs and artistic interests. I believe that anyone can learn to draw when complex forms are broken down into simple shapes, and I bridge the gap between classic studio art and modern digital creation to help you develop your own unique voice.
These lessons are perfect for absolute beginners looking to build their confidence, aspiring comic book artists, or hobbyists who want to explore character design and freelance illustration. Because I tailor every single session to what you want to achieve, no prior portfolio or degree is required.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Every creative session is custom-tailored to be dynamic, hands-on, and directly focused on your personal artistic milestones:
• Goal Setting & Alignment (10 mins): We always begin by checking in, discussing your current creative focus, and identifying exactly what you want to accomplish or troubleshoot during today's session.
• Targeted Concept Breakdown (15 mins): I deliver a focused demonstration or technical breakdown centered entirely on what you want to learn that day, whether it is mastering perspective, anatomical proportions, dynamic shading, or page layout strategies.
• Guided Practice & Studio Time (30 mins): You dive into your current project—whether you are working with traditional pencils on paper or digital layers in software—while I provide real-time guidance, course-corrections, and artistic tips.
• Review & Creative Roadmap (5 mins): We review your progress together, evaluate how we met today's goals, and set up an encouraging plan for what to sketch or practice before our next meeting.

What Sets Me Apart

What truly sets my lessons apart is that I teach art from the perspective of a creator who has successfully crossed the finish line. Having created and entirely self-published my own original graphic novels alongside years of freelance illustrative work, I don't just teach you how to draw—I teach you the exact pipeline required to take an idea from a rough sketch to a finished, publishable piece of art.
Because I actively use a mix of traditional media and digital workflows, I can teach you how to bring the best of both worlds together. I can guide you through the process of taking your traditional, hand-drawn paper sketches and bringing them into Adobe Photoshop to digitally clean them up, ink, color, and format them for professional printing or digital sharing.
