About Macy

I am a senior at Berklee College of Music and in these last four years, I have realized how fulfilling and powerful songwriting is. I wouldn't have discovered its weight if I didn't have the amazing teachers to expose me to it. I spend my time writing for myself and writing for other artists!

About the lesson

Since songwriting is a big umbrella, my lesson depends on what YOU want out of it. Here are a few different ways a lesson could go...

1. Beginner - Student has little to no songwriting experience.
- I would start the lesson by analyzing a few of the students' favorite songs. Then we would point out the song's components (lyrics, melody, concept, form) and explain what each contributes. From there, we would spend the next few lessons exercising each element separately before combining them.

2. Non-voice Musician - Student wants to incorporate songwriting and singing on top of their existing instrument.
- I would start the lesson by getting to know the students' preferred style, then we would go over the foundations of songwriting that have not been taught to them. The bulk of our work would be around the art of multitasking.

3. Advanced Songwriter - Student needs finishing touches.
- Sometimes, no matter how much you know about songwriting, having someone else to bounce ideas off of is always helpful. In this circumstance, it would turn into a collaboration, and I would help you shape up that concept or make the lyrics pack more punch.

These are certainly not the only lesson types I offer, but I wanted to run you through how individualized everyone's lesson would be. I take pride in fluidity and emotional intelligence to notice what is helpful to the student.
