Over the past few years, I have taken many advanced science and math classes. I know how challenging and intimidating these subjects can be. Chemistry, specifically, can present unique challenges because it brings a whole new way of looking at matter and solving problems.
After taking various science classes, I understand that memorizing the material is sometimes necessary but is not always the best approach to learning a subject. However, a deep understanding of what the professor is teaching often makes memorization unnecessary. In Organic Chemistry, for example, I used to push myself to memorize every step in a reaction mechanism. However, I finally understood that by understanding how electrons move and recognizing general patterns, I could do mechanisms I had never seen before.
