• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I was five when I started learning to play the keyboard. In a couple of weeks, my teacher asked my mother to put me in the vocal music classes as well, as she felt I had a good voice and understanding of swar. I started participating in inter-school events and also in many local stage shows. Got an opportunity to be part of various state level and national level competitions and win prizes. Was adjudged voice of Chandigarh and also became part of Saregama, the popular ZeeTV show.
  
  My interest in music kept on increasing as I kept exploring different forms and styles. I knew I didn't want to stop and even currently, I continue to learn each and everyday.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  Honestly, teaching music started as a part time activity for me initially while I was already doing a full time job. I had no idea this would become my full time profession one day.
  I used to interact with students of many age groups and I absolutely loved sharing whatever knowledge and experience I've gained through these years with them.
  I am very passionate about sharing detailed and deep rooted knowledge about music basics with students and developing their interest in the subject. I've experienced that many young students tend to find classical music basics boring and complicated. To make the subject fun and interesting for them and take them through the journey in a manner that they start loving the subject, is a good teacher's job. I put my hundred percent to make sure my students develop a liking towards the subject through my classes.

• How does your work help society?

  Music is a subject that can boost memory, lighten mood, reduce anxiety and depression, improve fatigue and is a solution to many psychological and even physical problems.
  It is something we are all touched by, irrespective of what culture we are from.
  I've had many students dealing with such problems and music has brought relief to them. Furthermore, I have been blessed to perform for, and contribute to the lives of senior citizens through cultural programmes held by senior citizens associations. Also I formed my own group called C2C to impart knowledge to the underprivileged in my local area. My aim is to spread knowledge and positivity through my music in as many lives as possible.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  I take my learning from my teachers, including my parents, very seriously. I've learnt many things about my subject and also life, from their experiences and teachings. As I continue to learn more, I'm gaining a bigger perspective of all things. I've not restricted my learning to one single source and believe it's important to keep exploring in order to gain a holistic understanding of anything.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Other than teaching, I am an ardent learner of music. I am learning each and everyday, different things from different sources. I love interacting with new people and spreading smiles everywhere.

  Many. Prefer to share face to face :)
