About Julie
My name is Julie and I absolutely adore singing- it brings me great joy! I want to share this passion with others and therefore I am offering singing lessons for various styles and abilities.
A little bit about me...
With nearly 20 years experience, I have been very lucky to have performed in many musicals, concerts and cabarets across the West of Scotland. In my early training as a performer, I gained a place at the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts (GAMTA) where I studied for three years. Also, I was a member of several choirs, including North Lanarkshire’s Junior and Senior Choruses where I was given the opportunity to perform as a soloist and take part in concerts at the Royal Concert Hall.
With regards to other training, I attended Confidance Performing Arts for three years and received singing lessons where I learned about the Estill Technique, a technique that I use in my teaching today. It was at Confidance that I discovered my passion for singing and through the education and support I received, I grew in confidence and improved my skills as a performer.
In 2014 I started my degree at the University of Glasgow in Music and Theatre Studies. I specialised in Vocal Performance in my final two years, receiving one of the highest marks for my Solo Recital (A5) and my group performance (A1), receiving an Honourable Mention in the undergraduate assessment prize for the School of Culture & Creative Arts. I graduated in 2018 with a 2:1 classification.
In addition, I have worked as a professional singer for almost 3 years. In the past I have worked for F3 Entertainments, a company that specialises in various solo and group acts for parties, weddings and corporate events all over Scotland. Now I perform as a soloist in venues in and around Glasgow, performing songs from a variety of genres from the 60s right up to the present day.

Lessons can be tailored for a number of reasons: SQA Exams, preparing for an audition or performance, building confidence and self-esteem or simply for fun! Styles that I can teach include Musical Theatre, Pop, Classical and Jazz.
My lessons usually start with a check in to see how you are feeling vocally. I would then go onto a warm-up ranging from 5-15 minutes depending on the length of the lesson and your own vocal needs. It has to be said that I am very passionate about good vocal health and warming up your voice correctly is part of this. Some may say that this is too long but just with warming up for exercise, you have to ensure that your voice is ready for singing. If we don't this could cause an injury or long term damage. You have to protect your voice, it is precious!
In terms of the songs you wish to sing, this is completely up to you. In your first lesson, I will ask that you prepare a song that you enjoy singing and that shows off your voice. From there I will suggest what genre/type of songs best suit your voice and give you suggestions on what we can work on. But again it is totally up to you, it's your lesson after all! After that we can set some vocal goals that I will help you reach, whether that be better breath control, acting through song or widening your range. At the end of the lesson, there will be a vocal cool down. This is to help relax your voice and body and also to prevent injury.
Lessons vary from 30 minutes to 1 hour and block bookings are available. I teach from my home in Moodiesburn, Glasgow but I am more than happy to travel to students' homes for an extra small fee. Furthermore, I also teach online via Zoom and Skype at a reduced rate.
