About Sophia
Hi there! I’m so glad you’re here.
My journey into education started with a Bachelor’s in Human Development, where I fell in love with understanding how we grow, learn, and overcome challenges at every stage of life. That passion led me to earn my Master’s in Special Education, specializing in the "lightbulb moments" that happen when a student finally hits their stride with reading and writing.
In my professional life, I’m a "roadblock remover" for students in grades 5-12. Whether we’re tackling the stress of college prep essays or building foundational literacy skills, I use tailored, evidence-based strategies to make sure every student feels seen and supported. I know that no two brains work the same way, and I love the challenge of finding the specific "key" that unlocks a student’s confidence.
When I’m not tutoring, I’m usually busy being a mom to my son. Being his parent is my favorite job, and it’s completely changed how I show up for my students. I know firsthand that behind every struggling reader or stressed-out essay writer is a parent who just wants their child to feel capable.

Why work with me? Most tutors simply help with homework; I teach students how their brains work. With my background in Special Education, I don’t use a one-size-fits-all curriculum. I identify exactly where the 'disconnect' is happening—whether it’s executive functioning hurdles or decoding gaps—and provide the specific scaffolding your student needs to bridge it. You’ll see less frustration at the kitchen table and more independent success in the classroom.
