About Benjamin

This is your learning and I want you to be the driver. I'm happy to help support your learning as you identify areas of need and will raise questions to test your thinking as you continue to develop a working understanding of your content.

I am not a pushy tutor and will meet you where you are at in your learning journey and will help you set and hold expectations. We will have good conversation AND you will think hard. Improving your learning processes is even more critical than internalizing content specific information. We're in the business of learning and problem solving not memorizing!

About the lesson

Differentiated student instruction to support students with disabilities, ESL students, and provide equitable support meeting students where they are at. I am comfortable working with students at varying levels of ability and enjoy watching them light up as they grow gaining confidence and mastery of new material.

A typical lesson plan will focus on a specific standard of practice that is relevant to what the student needs and can be aligned to their ongoing classes. I approach online lessons with an I do, we do, you do approach connecting the material to student's lived experience and making it applicable to their learning aspirations.

My professional experience is with middle and high school students and can support elementary students in material investigation and discovery as well. I want the student to be active participants in their construction of new knowledge which is shown to improve their retention of information and increase in confidence to assess new problems.

Stanford University grad, Teach for America alum, and certified AP Biology teacher. 10+ years of experience in education and tutoring.
