About Sarah
As a tutor, I prioritize a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their ideas. I understand that writing, especially for college applications or advanced coursework, can feel stressful, and I aim to make the process more manageable and enjoyable.
I previously worked as an essay tutor at The Ohio State University for three years. In that role, I supported over 25 students across more than a dozen English-related courses, helping with everything from literary analysis essays to argumentative and research-based writing assignments. That experience taught me to adapt to different learning styles and meet students where they are.
My feedback focuses on helping students improve not just a single assignment, but their overall writing skills, and I am committed to each student’s progress. Sessions are organized and goal-oriented, while still allowing space for creativity. My goal is for every student to leave sessions feeling more confident in their writing and better equipped to approach future assignments independently.

I take a collaborative, student-centered approach that focuses on helping students develop their ideas and create a thoughtful structure rather than simply correcting writing. I guide students through the writing process step by step so they feel supported and receive constructive feedback about how to improve.
A typical lesson varies depending on the student’s needs, but often begins with brainstorming or reviewing prompts, followed by identifying key ideas or themes. From there, we build an outline and then refine drafts. For AP English and advanced high school writing, we focus on literary analysis, argument development, and clarity.
What sets me apart is my focus on helping students think like writers. Rather than only providing specific edits, I emphasize how to structure arguments, develop ideas, and maintain an authentic voice. As someone who actively writes and publishes my own work, I also bring a firsthand perspective on the creative process. I help students understand how ideas evolve from initial concept to finished piece.
I work primarily with high school students, including those applying to college or enrolled in AP English courses. I also support students who feel overwhelmed by writing assignments or are unsure how to begin, helping them build confidence and clarity in their process.

I first worked with Sarah in college, where she assisted me with revising and editing academic essays. Her support was extremely helpful, and when I later applied to law school, I sought her guidance again to help refine my personal statement.
What sets Sarah apart is her thoughtful and methodical teaching approach. She doesn’t simply edit for correctness—she explains her reasoning, asks insightful questions, and helps clarify ideas so that the writing becomes stronger and more cohesive. Her feedback is both precise and constructive, making the process highly educational rather than just corrective.
One experience that stands out is working with her on my law school essay. Through multiple rounds of revision, she helped transform an early draft into a polished and compelling piece. Her ability to identify gaps in structure and argument, while still preserving my voice, made a significant difference in the final result. Not only did her help contribute to my admission with scholarship, but she taught me an effective method of writing that I will carry with me in to law school.
Sarah is a highly effective tutor who not only improves your work but also strengthens your overall writing skills. I would strongly recommend her to any student seeking clear, thoughtful, and impactful guidance.View more recommendations
