About Anabel

Hello! My name is Ms. Anabel, and I’m an experienced English tutor with a background in AMI Montessori education. I have worked with young children for over 17 years. I specialise in helping children aged 5–10 build strong foundations in reading, writing, and grammar—at their own pace, and in a way that feels encouraging and enjoyable.

Whether your child is just starting out, needs extra support, or is preparing for French Immersion or École Francophone, I offer a phonics-based approach that helps make reading and writing click, helping children master essential letter–sound relationships.

Through engaging instruction, they learn:

• Open and closed syllables
• When to use “k” vs. “ck”
• Digraphs and split digraphs
• The schwa sound
• It’s vs its
• Then vs than
• There vs their
• And many other foundational rules

These decoding strategies don’t just help with English—some rules carry over to other languages like French, Portuguese, and more.

Grammar and Language Development
As your child becomes a confident reader, they also develop a strong grasp of core grammar concepts, including:

• Suffixes & prefixes
• Articles & conjunctions
• Prepositions
• Verbs, adverbs, adjectives
• Nouns & pronouns
• Contractions & punctuation

These skills lay the foundation for clear thinking and strong writing.

Weekly Dictation Practice
When your child is developmentally ready, I introduce dictation words each week to help strengthen spelling fluency. The following week, I revisit these words through thoughtful correction and practice. I invite you, the parent, to play a hands on role in this process—helping your child study, guiding them gently, and celebrating every step forward.

Reading Chapter Books Together
Once your child is developmentally ready, we gradually transition away from the books I’ve written—designed specifically to teach targeted rules—and introduce age-appropriate chapter books. This helps your child apply their newfound skills in real-world reading.
Whether working one-on-one or in small groups of 2–3 students, we use these chapter books to boost comprehension and foster a love of reading.

Real Parent Feedback:
One little girl I taught started out behind in reading at age 6. Within four months, her teacher was shocked by her progress. After a year, she was nearly caught up—and by year two, she was tutoring her classmates!

Let’s build your child’s literacy skills—and their love of learning—from the ground up.

English

Hello! I’m Ms. Anabel, and I’d love to support your child’s learning journey.

I’m an online English teacher with over 17 years of experience helping young learners thrive. I specialise in teaching children aged 5–10 how to read, write, and build strong grammar skills—all taught using Canadian English.

My lessons are engaging, supportive, and developmentally appropriate. Whether your child is just beginning to read, needs a boost in confidence, or wants to strengthen their English while attending French Immersion or École Francophone, I’m here to help them succeed—at their own pace, in a way that feels fun and encouraging.

I teach from the heart—and I genuinely connect with kids. I believe learning should be joyful, empowering, and something every child looks forward to.

My program is custom-designed, kid-tested, and built with care. I use a mix of audiovisual aids, simple and clear explanations, and hands-on activities that make learning feel natural and fun. Whether your child is starting out or needs extra support, I meet them where they’re at and help them grow with confidence.

What My Online Lessons Look Like
Your child will join me for interactive, 30-minute lessons, 2 or 3 times a week. These sessions are fun, focused, and friendly. We use conversation, pencil and paper, screen sharing, and worksheets to learn. And yes, we laugh along the way!

Children who can remember letter sounds can learn to read—and my program shows them how to put it all together step-by-step.

What Your Child Will Learn
• How to decode new words using phonics-based techniques
• The logic behind spelling and how to become a stronger speller
• Tons of sight words with tools like Commonly Used Words and Word Rockets
• The power of open and closed syllables
• How vowel and consonant combinations work
• Core grammar concepts: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, pronouns, contractions, punctuation, and more
• How to think critically and explain what they understand
• And most importantly, a love of reading

My goal is to help kids understand the "why" behind the language—not just memorise it—so they can use what they learn in real life and feel proud of their progress.

What Students Are Saying
“This is easy.”
“Can we stay longer? I want to work on word search.”
“Thanks for teaching me punctuation in a way I understand.”
“I want to read a book. When are we going to read a book?”
“You're my favourite person in the whole galaxy.”
Zoom message: “You’re lots of fun.” / “Thank you for teaching us. You’re very kind.”

And the jokes we share? They’re the best part.

Student jokes:
• What do sea monsters eat? Fish and ships.
• What’s a ghost’s worst room? The living room.
• What does an axolotl do on vacation? Relaxolotl.
• Why did the cow cross the road? To get to the mooseum.
• What is a parent you can’t see? Transparent.

My Favourite Moment as a Teacher?
When a child realises they can read—and their whole face lights up with pride. That quiet, amazed little smile in their eyes? It never gets old.

I’ve Helped Kids Who:
• Have ADHD or ADD
• Are learning English as a second language (ESL)
• Are below grade level
• Are in French Immersion or École Francophone and need support in English

Many of my students experience:
Increased comprehension
Higher grades
More confidence
Lots of smiles
