I prefer to teach primary school children as well as year 7 and 8 students. I would start by getting a good idea of what level of literacy and numeracy the student is at and I would build on that by growing vocabulary, working on punctuation and grammar as well as providing easy ways of developing comprehension and language skills. When teaching numeracy I always start off simple because it can be quite confusing for a young student. Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division would be the basis of the lessons. Then from there the student can begin to become comfortable and confident in their ability to do mathematics. From this point more difficult mathematics can be learned and developed such as simple algebra and geometry.
