About Tony

Dear prospective student,

I would like to share a few words about myself. I am a professional classical guitarist, chamber musician and educator. I am a graduate from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, as well as a Professional Studies Diploma under the tutelage of famed classical guitarists Sérgio Assad and David Tanenbaum. I am the winner of various classical guitar festivals including the Sierra Nevada, Sinaia, Craiova and Assenovgrad classical guitar competitions and hold awards from the Portland, Louisville, Tennessee and SFCM Concerto Competitions. I have participated in organizing and judging various events including the Walnut Creek and Sierra Nevada Guitar Festivals. I am an active performer both as a soloist and a chamber musician with the Pacific Guitar Ensemble, a group consisting of SFCM guitar faculty and selected alumni. I have appeared in concerts at major guitar festivals and concert series among which are La Guitarra California, Guitar Foundation of America, Omni Foundation Guitar Series, Cranbrook Music Guild and various classical guitar societies. I have a passion for teaching and have given performances and masterclasses at Portland State University, Fullerton State University, Humboldt State University, UC Santa Cruz and others. As an instructor I was the classical guitar faculty at the top rated charter Oakland School for the Arts for six years and maintain a large private studio.

I look forward to meeting you and guide you through your musical journey!

About the lesson

I am passionate about classical guitar and take joy in teaching this art to kids and adults of all ages and levels! I have been teaching guitar for over fifteen years and take great enthusiasm in it. I focus on proper technique, which will allow the guitarist to play relaxed and with ease; musicality, which is such an essential part of classical guitar music, as well as having a beautiful sound. I will provide you with a good approach to guitar playing including exercises to strengthen your technique and ways to practice in order to build a solid playing foundation. I am patient but will also challenge my students to progress naturally.

My students have participated in various guitar festivals in the Bay Area and have received awards from the Walnut Creek and San Francisco Bay Guitar Festival and Competitions. My Oakland School for the Arts Classical Guitar Ensemble holds the highest 'Superior' ratings from the South Bay Guitar Society for four years in a row and have been granted the Tom Gardin Memorial Scholarship in 2016.

I took lessons with Mr. Tony for many, many years, and I really enjoyed it. He is always flexible and great at understanding what a student needs to improve. He is encouraging and knowledgeable, and every time I would play for my family they would take notice of how much improvement I make each class. I highly recommend Mr. Tony as a guitar teacher for beginner, intermediate, and advanced guitar students!

Mr. Tony is absolutely fabulous! A standout guitar instructor. He worked with my daughter from the time she was a motivated young 7 year old until she was in high school. He's patient, kind, professional, and provides detailed feedback to help her continue to grow and enjoy her lessons. We would recommend Mr. Tony without reservations, and I would highly encourage anyone looking for a wonderful guitar tutor to reach out. I cannot imagine a better instructor.

Antoniy is an amazing guitarist and a fantastic teacher. Under him, I have improved technically and musically by leaps and bounds. I have taken lessons from Tony off and on for several years and he spurred a passion for classical guitar. He is incredibly patient, especially when I try new guitar techniques in our lessons. I would recommend him to anyone interested in picking up the guitar.
