I teach violin viola cello and piano in Coronet Bay. Music teaching is my passion. Twenty eight years experience, all styles, ages and abilities. AMEB exam preparation offered also.

Methodology

I base my classes on - Care of your instrument
Correct bow hold, left hand position and posture
Learning to read music and understand the theory behind it
Developing music skills by ear & improvisation
Assisting students to learn different styles of music, their choice
Prepare students for performance and/or examinations, their choice
teach expression & beauty in music making.

Background

I am a violinist who has taught strings and piano for Twenty eight years. I have played in Symphony Orchestras, Chamber groups and modern electrified Bands.
I gained honors for eighth grade violin and fifth grade music theory. I completed year twelve at VCA.
My teaching method focuses on sound technique, hand positions and posture.
Reading music is combined with ear training and improvisation, with a different emphasis on each of these, according to student goals and leanings.
Past students have achieved high grades in AMEB examinations and VCE music performance.
Above all, my students enjoy learning to play instruments and performance or self satisfaction as a hobbie.

1971 -1977 Entered and gained honors for Preliminary - seventh grade practical
1972 Played in Dorian Le Gulliene String Group
1973 - 1977 Played in Brian Blake String Orchestra. Performed at Dallas Brookes Hall, St Peter's Church Melbourne, also recorded at ABC studio and Melbourne University, plus attended Music Camps at Camberwell Grammar.
1978 - Studied at Victorian College of the Arts S.C. Played in VCA Symphony Orchestra.
Performed at Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne Town Hall, Sydney Myer Music Bowl. Toured Regional Victoria.
1990 - Began teaching violin privately. First student achieved honors for AMEB exam.
1996 - Gained honors for fifth grade music theory
1997 - Gained honors for eighth grade violin practical
1998 - 2004 taught all strings (Cello & Viola) Nazareth S.C, St. Francis Xaviour & Patterson River S.C
2005 - 2018 taught piano and all strings at Cranbourne music School & Blue Notes College of Music
Also played in Frankston Symphony Orchestra, Electrified Bands& Gippsland Symphony Orchestra
During this period I gained skills in Improvisation an ear playing with the Bands.
Also enjoyed Busking, playing at Weddings and around campfires.
I am currently working on all my instruments to ensure good skills and enthusiasm are carried over to my students.
