I have five years of experience in private English tuition and formally worked full-time as a secondary school teacher for two years. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts focusing on languages from the University of Auckland and obtained my Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). I also obtained a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the TEFL Academy which is based in Ireland.
The principle behind my pedagogy is that practice makes perfect. Speaking skills are developed through interaction to solve practical problems. Grammar and vocabulary are learned in context by analysing and explaining written texts. Speaking skills can then further be developed through debating topics covered in written texts. My lessons are one hour or one and a half hours in length as per the student's need and I deliver lessons to students from 18-30 years of age. My expertise is in building the language skills of students at intermediate and advanced levels.
