About Melissa

Hello! I'm a friendly and supportive English tutor with a History degree from University College London (UCL). I am TEFL qualified and will soon begin my CELTA course to continue developing my teaching skills.

Alongside my studies, I teach beginner English to asylum seekers and provide one-to-one online lessons for both adults and children of all levels.

My passion for language learning comes from my own experience. I taught myself Spanish to an intermediate level and later lived in Spain while working as an au pair, giving me first-hand insight into the challenges and rewards of learning a new language.

About the lesson

My lessons are conversation-based, helping you develop fluency, confidence and natural communication skills in English. Each lesson is carefully planned around your current level, learning goals and interests, ensuring that every session is engaging, relevant and tailored to your needs.

I use a range of speaking activities, discussion questions and practical exercises to help you expand your vocabulary and use new language with confidence. Throughout each lesson, I provide clear, constructive feedback on your grammar, pronunciation and sentence structure, helping you identify areas for improvement while building on your strengths.

I have known Melissa my whole life. She is empathetic, patient, kind, approachable and an amazing listener. Her empathy and kindness means that she can explain things to people in a way that works best for them. She can read people very well so will be easily able to see what techniques are effective on people and which aren’t as preferable. This will enable her to adjust her teaching style depending on the person, rather than a one faced approach. She is very enthusiastic and so can explain things in a way which seems exciting and interesting, making the learning experience enjoyable, personalised and effective. I have no doubt that anyone who has time with her will come out better on the other side of it.
