About Maximiliano

BACKGROUND:
- I've graduated high school in 2024 with a 5.1 GPA and awarded $700,000 in scholarships, and have continued to earn scholarships in University. You name the club, sport, performing arts I've done it. I mention this because, not only will we be learning to improve math skills and concepts (that's a given). But I can also provide tips and mentorship for those students looking to get ahead. I can recommend the dos and don'ts that were successful for myself and help your student get ahead and stand out. Not only academically in math but as a well-rounded student in the eyes of college boards and applications.

- I personally wish I had the same advising when I was growing up but I learned the hard way what sticks. I've been tutoring for 3 years now and love to help out students of all ages and backgrounds, no matter how stuck a student may feel academically or success-wise, I'll stick with them till the end and only when they are proud of themselves and their work is when a tutor has done their job.

TO PARENTS:
- 9/10 it's the teacher's problem (crazy I know). Not to say they are purposely sabotaging your child's future but teachers are expected to mention certain information about topics. Sometimes this "extra information" is what leads to confusion in math *ask me how I know*. I can't tell you the amount of times I struggled with a topic only now to understand how simple it actually was. I say this to reassure you that no matter the state a student's academic career is in, you have not even scratched the surface of what's possible to improve. I want every student to succeed and I know I can help your student improve.

TEACHING METHODS:
- We will focus on something I call "low stakes mastery". Many times students are worried about grades so much they forget to understand what they learn. Our focus will be digging deeper into the concepts behind math problems so you don't only think "ok this is how I do it because that's what the teacher wrote on the board" but you think instead "ok so we x because of y".

- We'll spend a session or two reviewing concepts in need and seeing what type of problems are difficult and work with diagnosing those weak points or working through patching up those weak points first. Then on the third session we will do a low stakes quiz that is provided by their teacher (so they are actually getting experience on what they see in class) I'll hand pick 3-4 problems and allow the student to demonstrate their IMPROVEMENT.

I emphasize improvement because it's fine, yes I repeat it's fine if they don't get all the questions correct. We are here to improve no matter if it's just one more question correct. I promise you we'll get there. Eventually it becomes habit. From there we'll move on to new topics occasionally doing a problem from a previous topic thrown into the session so the student doesn't forget previous topics

WHO THE LESSONS ARE FOR:
- I have worked with a range of students, youngest being 5 and oldest being 19. Whether you're looking to better understand fractions or pass calc 2 I can help
