About Pralish
I am an engineering student studying my Masters in Mechatronics Engineeing.
If COVID has taught me anything, it is that we all need help from others sometime and that's okay.
I've been tutoring family members and younger cousins in their maths classes, and have held work experience as a teaching assistant in my old primary school. As someone who also used to have tuition, I know how crucial it is that you get one that's right for you.
I have been able to push my cousins to obtaining much higher than expected.

For a 60 minute lesson I will divide my time into the following:
5-minute introduction introducing the aims of the session. I will provide the student with a checklist of things that we'll discuss and go over along with some learning objectives. I'll later come back to these at the end to test that my students understand what was taught to them.
I would then spend some time going through the homework that I would set from the previous session (around 10-15 minutes).
I would then spend about 30 minutes going through their course materials and teaching new content. If this is online, I'd love to do a zoom call and go through interactive slides to teach the new materials to them. In doing this, I'll make sure that the student is engaged through asking questions to really test their understanding.
I would then spend 10 minutes on testing their understanding through asking them questions (mostly from this session but also relying on information from the previous lesson to ensure that they fully understand what we've studied).
Based on how the session is going, I'll know whether to slow down or speed up certain sections (i.e. simplify difficult concepts to ensure the student understands well, or provide more challenging examples/questions if the student understands well).
I won't necessarily keep to the plan that I've listed above as I'd always want to ensure that I adapt to each individual students needs. My aim is to always ensure that my students are engaged and are confident in their understanding. I know as my time as a student at university that this is what a lot of people unfortunately lack (including myself sometimes). If I can get my students to confidentally explain concepts or answer example questions then I'll know that they understand these concepts.
