About Sophia
I have always enjoyed the challenge of maths - it’s not just about getting the right answer, but about learning how to think logically, solve problems, and approach things from different angles. That is what I want to share with my students. I understand that maths can feel overwhelming at times, but with clear explanations, patience, and the right support, I believe that anyone can improve and gain confidence. I’ve worked with students at different levels and I understand how important it is to meet each learner where they are. Tutoring is something I really value, not just as a way to help others, but because I genuinely enjoy explaining ideas and seeing that moment when something clicks. My goal is always to make maths feel more manageable, less stressful, and maybe even enjoyable. I’m reliable, friendly, and professional, and I’m committed to helping every student make progress at their own pace.

My approach to tutoring is calm, supportive, and tailored to the individual. I focus on building a strong understanding of the core concepts, breaking problems down into manageable steps, and encouraging students to ask questions and think independently. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them - that’s how real progress happens. A typical lesson lasts around an hour, but I’m flexible depending on the student’s needs and attention span. I often begin by reviewing any problem areas or recent classwork, followed by targeted practice and step-by-step explanations. I am currently in my third year of the Pure Mathematics integrated master’s course at the University of St Andrews. I’ve supported younger students in school during weekly maths sessions and have also tutored young secondary school students in arithmetic. I primarily work with secondary school students and college/sixth-form students - whether they’re looking for help catching up, revising for exams, or pushing themselves further.
