About Samantha
Spending 9 years teaching fiddle has taught me that the ear is a sharper tool than any page of ink. Sometimes I still struggle to read the dots on a page as quickly as I can hear a melody in my head. My path started in the Blue Ridge Mountains at old pickin parties where music was a conversation rather than a chore. I focus on tone production and shifting positions so you can move around the neck with ease.
Understanding how to tune by ear is part of that process. Getting the rhythm right is just as important as the notes themselves. I have worked with teens and adults to build their confidence through classical repertoire and folk tunes.
We spend time on double stops and left hand agility to make the instrument sing. You will find that I keep things relaxed and focused on your personal growth. Let us focus on the sounds you want to create.

Walking into our first session, you will notice there are no complex manuals sitting on the stand. We pick up the instrument and find the first few notes by listening to a simple phrase I play. This follows the method I used during my time at Belmont University where I earned my BM in Music Performance.
I work with absolute beginners to ensure the foundation of your posture and bow grip is steady. With 9 years of teaching behind me, I know how to break down complex shifts into manageable movements. We explore orchestral playing techniques side by side with the traditional tunes that defined my upbringing.
You might find that the music feels more natural when you stop looking for the sheet music. It is about the connection between your fingers and the vibration of the wood. We let the melody guide us forward. The session ends when we feel the tune has finally settled into your hands.
