About Jesus
Hi! I am a trombone player and music/brass teacher. I graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019. I started teaching brass and general musicianship in 2016 and since then I have taught children, teenagers and adults in different environments: Schools, audition and exam preparation, music workshops and private lessons.
I deliver lessons both privately and in Scottish primary and secondary schools, as well as in Sistema Scotland (Big Noise).
- Low Brass and general musicianship teacher at Big Noise Govanhill (2019 - Present)
- Couching Ensembles (2016 - Present)
- Private brass tutor (2016 - Present)
- Cover Brass Instructor at Renfrewshire Council (2021)
- Music Workshops for children, teenagers and adults with Nevis Ensemble (2019 - 2021)
- Brass instructor at North Lanarkshire Council (2016 - 2020)
- Brass Ensemble workshops in primary and secondary schools (2016 - 2019)
Teaching training:
- Teaching Beginner Brass with Arlene Macfarlane, June 2021
- Orff Method of Music Teaching, December 2019
- Dalcroze Method of Music Teaching, December 2019
- Solfege Method of Music Teaching, October 2019
- Teaching and Learning Training, February 2020
- Adverse Childhood Experiences and Early Trauma Training, August 2020
- 5 Pillars Pivotal Behaviour Training, August 2020
- De-escalation Training, October 2019
From my career as a musician, I would probably highlight my soloist concert with RCS Wind Orchestra, my participation on the Apprenticeship Scheme with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) and lastly, the recent premiere on BBC Radio Scotland of 'Ebb & Flow', a piece for solo trombone, which was composed for me as part of a Nevis Ensemble project. In addition, I have been awarded with 2 ensemble prizes: David James Brass Prize with Spitha Brass Quintet (2017) and Mary D Adams Prize for Chamber Music with Clydeslide trombone quartet (2017).

Each student is different and therefore I always try to adapt my lessons to each student's needs, making use of all the different resources available (online and offline) to make lessons dynamic and fun for the students. As a response to the situation during the pandemic I had to learn to deliver online lessons and I had to adapt the resources and the way of teaching music, by also using audio recordings and videos more often.
I have taught private students with different goals from complete beginners who want to start learning an instrument, school pupils who want help passing their SQA or ABRSM exams or others who were preparing for a music audition in college or conservatoire. After attending my lessons, the students not only passed their SQA and ABRSM exams, but they also gained places at National Orchestra for All.
If you are willing to take lessons with me, I will take some time during the first lesson to make sure I understand your goals to tailor each lesson to your specific needs.

Perfect! Found Jesus to give lessons to my partner in the lock-down over Skype. He's really looking forward to his trombone lessons every week and is full of praise for Jesus. I wasn't sure online lessons would be as good as face-to-face but Jesus proved me wrong. Thank you!
