About Lucia

Hi! My name is Lucia, I'm an international student at UCC, studying music. I'm from Munich, Germany, and I moved here for my studies three years ago.

I have always excelled at languages, having taken German, English, French, Spanish, and Latin in school, which means I am well-versed in translation and understanding structures and grammar behind languages, as well as the importance of spoken word and pronunciation.

During my time in Cork, I have worked on musical productions with fellow students, acting as musical director and thus guiding them in their singing. This has given me a very good understanding of a good teaching approach and has shown me the joy of seeing both my and my student's work pay off when they improve or perfect a skill.

I am very open-minded and happy to help out wherever needed. I can't wait to meet you!

About the lesson

As with any language, I believe the key to effortlessly writing and speaking in English lies in self-confidence, motivation, and exposure. That is why I am here to help my students with what THEY want to learn in a positive an reassuring way. I also encourage my students to get exposed to the style of English they want to improve on as much as possible by suggesting books and movies that interest them personally. I believe in positive criticism: giving reassurance, positivity, and confidence, while still pointing out things that could be improved upon or need work.

I finished my bachelor's degree in music and English with a H1 last year and during the course of the three-year programme I got a lot of experience in essay writing, English literature, and reading and writing articles in academic English. However, I learned English as a foreign language in school, so I am very aware of grammatical structures, issues with pronunciation, learning new vocabulary, and learning to use phrases and figures of speech. Therefore, I am able to help out with whichever part of the English language my students need.

Whether you want to learn English from scratch or you want to polish your writing skills or get more fluent in academic English, I am more than happy to help! I can review tests with you or proofread your essays and lend a hand in exam preparation, essay writing, literature analysis, pronunciation, grammar, and much more. All are welcome!!
