About Awani
Hi! My name is Awani, and I'm currently pursuing my master's degree at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) after earning my bachelor's degree in Biology from Santa Clara University.
Teaching has always been something I genuinely enjoy. I previously worked as an instructor at Mathnasium, where I helped students of all ages strengthen their math skills while building confidence in their abilities. I've also taught English to middle school students and mentored students in STEM through research and educational programs. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is seeing that moment when a concept finally clicks and a student realizes they're capable of solving problems on their own.
Outside of academics, I love cooking and trying new recipes, I always joke that I become a MasterChef contestant whenever I'm in the kitchen! I believe learning should be engaging, encouraging, and even fun, and I bring that same positive energy to every lesson.

I believe the best way to learn is to truly understand why something works, not just memorize it. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and personalized because every student learns differently. I take the time to understand each student's strengths, challenges, and goals so I can adapt my lessons to fit their learning style.
I have experience working with students of all ages, including as a Mathnasium instructor, where I helped students strengthen their math skills and build confidence. I've also taught English to middle school students and mentored students in STEM subjects. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, because that's where real learning happens.
A typical lesson begins with reviewing previous material and identifying any areas of confusion. From there, we work through new concepts step by step using examples, practice problems, and real-world applications whenever possible. I encourage students to explain their thinking so they develop confidence and become independent problem-solvers rather than relying on memorization.
I tutor middle school, high school, and introductory college students in math, biology, chemistry, and related STEM subjects. Whether you're preparing for an exam, working through homework, or building a stronger foundation, I'm committed to helping you succeed while making learning enjoyable.
