About Mannah
From 9th-12th grade, I ran a tutoring nonprofit in my hometown. Starting off with K-12 math, I slowly expanded my offerings to precalculus, calculus, and SAT/ACT prep. It was odd, tutoring kids often my age or even older, but I don't believe that age or stage of life should ever be a barrier to good tutor/mentee relationships. Over 4 years of high school, I was grateful to raise over $8000 for St. Jude's Cancer Research and gain just under 800 hours of teaching experience.
I'm currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina majoring in Philosophy and Medical Anthropology with a Biology minor, pursuing healthcare and bioethics. I have not, however, lost my love for the addictive rush of solving math problems, cracking test prep, and working with students of all ages. I've been a private tutor for the past two years and have also started offering general chemistry, basic-to-intermediate biology/molecular genetics, and algebra-based physics lessons.
You might think that I am too young to be doing this, and I understand this concern! But I believe that my experiences with simultaneously teaching students both older and younger than me since I was 14 have revolutionized my perspective on learning. My lessons aren't just there for you to get answers and for me to talk at you. Instead, I honestly view my tutoring as an opportunity to meet cool new people, help instill confidence in various ways, and reinforce and maintain my love for subjects that I might not get to practice regularly in college.

Hi! Our tutoring journey would start with a trial session: this is (a) for me to understand how you learn best and (b) for you to determine your compatibility with my teaching and personality.
If we continue, I then rebuild your chosen syllabus around your schedule, current level/struggles, and goals. Before each lesson, you tell me what you’d like to focus on, and we begin with a quick review of the most important core concepts before diving into what’s actually confusing you.
After this, our time is spent breaking down struggle points using "critical concept mapping," or CCM. CCM involves us working backward from topics/ideas you understand, and building UP and INTO the difficult topics, rather than treating topics in isolation.
I believe your learning of a subject works as a connected whole, not unit by unit.
Over the past 6 years, I've tutored K–12 students across all grades as well as college students struggling with precalculus, calculus, algebra-based physics, and cell biology or molecular genetics. I bring experience from group sessions, private tutoring, and comprehensive SAT/ACT prep to adapt to a wide range of learners.
I also specialize in teaching strategies for students with differential learning needs, as all students deserve the support to feel confident in their academics!
