About Uthpala
I have always had a strong interest in Mathematics, Science, and English, and these were among my strongest subjects throughout my school years. I developed a strong academic foundation during school, which helped me successfully gain admission to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya (UoP), one of Sri Lanka’s prestigious universities, on my first attempt.
I completed my Bachelor’s degree with Honors with a first class, and my academic performance provided me with the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Engineering at the Australian National University (ANU). My current research focuses on audio and acoustic signal processing.
Alongside my academic journey, I have always enjoyed helping others learn. I have experience in peer tutoring during both my school and undergraduate studies, and I currently tutor at the ANU School of Computing. These experiences have taught me the importance of explaining concepts clearly, being patient, and adapting my teaching style to suit each student's level and learning needs.
As a tutor, my goal is not only to help students achieve better results, but also to build their understanding, confidence, and interest in learning.

I prefer to conduct tutoring sessions online, with flexible 1-hour or 1.5-hour sessions depending on the student’s needs.
My approach to tutoring is interactive and focused on building strong fundamentals. Rather than simply providing answers, I aim to help students understand the underlying concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and gain confidence in the subject.
I am currently working as a tutor at the Australian National University (ANU), School of Computing. I also have previous experience as a peer tutor during both my school and undergraduate studies, which has given me experience working with students of different backgrounds and learning styles.
I am available to teach school-level students as well as undergraduate students, and I am happy to adapt the pace and teaching approach to suit each student's individual needs.
