About Maria
I am currently on my last year as a Psychology major in the University of British Columbia Vancouver. As a student, I also work part-time in the weekends as a sales associate. English is my first language, but I also speak Tagalog (Filipino) and some Spanish. From elementary to high school, it was required by my school to take rigorous classes in grammar, and literature from all over the world. From Shakespeare to Maya Angelou, I am well equipped with critical thinking and interpretations of texts. Going to university, I had taken numerous English and writing programs as requirements. My major requires numerous papers and written assignments as well, so I am very confident I can help with any reading and writing (vocabulary, grammar) assignments.

I can teach 1st-grade level English comprehension, conversation, spelling and vocabularies up to proof-reading high school students written assignments. I am fairly flexible and will adjust to the level of comprehension my students have. On our first meeting, I will begin the class by assessing the extent of English you know with some warm-up oral conversations. It will be very casual and should not last more than 5 minutes, just a series of introductory questions. I will have to give you feedback soon afterwards on what level we are dealing with and how I can help improve your English. If its spelling and vocabulary we are dealing with, I use flashcards exercises. If it is help in sentence construction, reading comprehension and daily oral and written conversations you need, I do give written and spoken exercises prepared.
