About Josephine
I'm both laid-back and focused - I believe the best way to learn is to find each student's best way in to engaging with math, comprehending its meaning, and making it their own.
I taught high school math (predominantly algebra) for two years. In my first year I was my district's 'new teacher of the year;' in my second I was my school's Algebra I lead teacher.
Other qualifications:
--Teacher training in middle school math classrooms
--Graduated from George Washington University
--Took four calculus courses at Northwestern University while in high school
--Earned perfect scores in math on the SAT, ACT, & SAT II as a high school senior
And I now work in theatre - so if you've got a creative mind, I get how that works too! :)

Math textbooks like to focus on 'what' you have to do to solve problems. I like to focus on 'why' the solutions work - it makes math so much more interesting and easier to remember!
As a teacher I was known for being the classroom where everyone was welcomed, no one was ever made to feel stupid, and where algebra transformed from something scary to something my students felt confident in.
I love kids, preteens, & teens and I love math :)
