When did you develop an interest in your subject and private tutoring?
I developed an interest in private tutoring soon after I finished high school. After doing well in my courses, some of my family members started coming to me for help with different subjects mostly Maths, and Accounting. Seeing them improve their results and my impact on their academics and lives really moved me. That is how I developed my passion for tutoring. This made me decide to teach accounting and mathematics at a local high school for two years before I enrolled for my first year at the university. University-level accounting opened my eyes to its potential to impact someone's financial life, hence I focused on teaching the subject.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students.
I teach Financial Accounting/Reporting. The topics I like to discuss the most with students are the Assets and liabilities sections. A depth understanding of these two sessions can add value to a student beyond just doing well in exams. When there is time, I always help students apply the principles that govern those two sections in their financial lives. Many investors and rich people say education is not the key to understanding how money works. Through these topics, I try to show students how education can actually help one in understanding how money works day to day life as well.
Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?
The teachers from the high school I attended created a very developed and effective side tutoring business through which many students have excelled in their exams and have managed to at least be enrolled at varsity. This gave me an understanding of how extra help can help students in excelling in life and in their exams.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
* Subject Knowledge. : A good tutor should have a strong understanding and knowledge of the subject they are teaching
* Communication Skills. : Effective communication is vital for a tutor. They should be able to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, adapting their communication style to meet the needs of the student. Good listening helps tailor approaches to student needs.
* Motivation and Encouragement: A good tutor should be enthusiastic about the subject matter and inspire a love for learning in their students. They should provide positive reinforcement, praise progress, and motivate students to overcome challenges.
* Professionalism: Tutors should maintain a professional demeanour, respecting the student's privacy, confidentiality, and individual needs. They should adhere to schedules, arrive punctually, and be reliable in their commitments.
Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?
A student with no background in accounting from high school once approached me. During his first semester, he was getting below 30% on tests. When I started helping him, he had to get more than 60% to pass the course. After intensive tutoring sessions, he managed to score a 92% on his final exam.
Did you face any difficulties at school or university?
I ‌paid for my university expenses myself. The difficulties I faced were juggling between jobs to ensure I manage to cover my tuition and all other expenses I had to cover. I’m glad that I managed to finish my degree in record time.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this specific subject, or something completely different?
My passion is adding value to other people’s lives. There is nothing that makes me happier than doing something that helps the people around me. I get to exercise this passion through tutoring and employing people through the few business startups that I have started so far.
What makes you a Superprof?
What makes me a Superprof is that I do not only teach for the paycheck I’m result oriented and what satisfies me the most is that text from a student telling me they excelled in their text/exam. I have been tutoring for years now and my success rate is above 80%.

Over time, I have developed an ability to motivate, encourage and inspire a love for learning in students that I tutor, hence making it easy for students to improve their marks and overall understanding of the subjects that I tutor.

Apart from that, I can effectively convey complex concepts in a simplified manner, making them accessible to students. I can also adapt my teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring that students grasp the material.
