About Brandy
Around the time I was 11 or 12 years old, my parents bought me my first book in the "Sweet Valley High" series, and from that moment forward, I read everything I could get my hands on. Once I reached high school, my English teacher and the librarian opened up a world of literature that I had never read, from the classics to Stephen King. I decided that I wanted to be an English Teacher and open up the world of literature to my students.
Over the last 24 years, I have taught English in grades 6-12. For the last 6 years, I have been teaching 10th-grade English. We have units that delve into Hamilton: The Musical and "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." I always try to encourage my students to read, discuss/debate, and share their own opinions on the topics that we read, as well as to read themselves.
Writing is another huge component that I am adamant about when teaching my students. This is an important part of the English curriculum. Writing is a skill that is important no matter your goals in life. I strive to build not only strong literature students, but also skilled, confident writers.
