My Background
My family and I left South Africa in 2001 heading to Taiwan to teach English. We spent five years teaching English to pre-school, primary, secondary and adult students. My lessons were presented in classes, small groups and in one-on-one situations. I worked at a Taiwan type international primary school for those five years and I also taught at after-school language centers and an adult consulting center.
We then moved to Malaysia in 2006 where I taught Japanese and Korean adults for five years. This was done in small groups and in a one-on-one basis. I also taught larger groups of Korean university students who came for English training every year.
From 2011 I started as a trainer/mentor/facilitator working for a group whose sole client was the Malaysian Ministry of Education, where I worked with local Malay, Chinese and Indian primary and secondary teachers. My training was in the form of demonstration lessons, team teachings and workshops. The objective was to improve the teachers’ English proficiency and their pedagogical skills. This I did for four years after which I was selected to facilitate around ninety teachers over a ten-month period with the objective to improve their English proficiency from A2/B1 to C1 as per the CEFR. A seven-hour long workshop format with 14 to 28 teachers per day was followed. I was fairly successful with this task given the short period of time to achieve the objective. It was a very rewarding period in my life!
I then became the Head of Boarding at an international school near Kuala Lumpur in 2016, where I also taught ESL to years 7 up to 11, following IGCSE for the latter year students. This continued for two years.
I have just resigned as the Head of Boarding from an international school in Kuala Lumpur. I have worked there since June 2018.
The reason for my resignation is to follow my passion of teaching English to second language students.
I am married, and both my children are working in Dubai, having grown up in Southeast Asia. I am a keen tennis player, who needs to be on court at least twice a week. I am also a motorsport enthusiast and rugby is very close to my heart.

I believe in achieving realistic lesson objectives in a fun and challenging way, moving students to take ownership of their learning. My further focus is on getting ESL students who in general don’t have enough exposure to English to understand the grammar part and to gain confidence using the language in whatever form.
