About Arifcan
I am a Geotechnical Engineer with over five years of combined field and numerical modelling experience. I hold an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering and am currently pursuing a PhD focused on subgrade investigation and high-speed railway infrastructure. I have worked on several major infrastructure schemes, including a €1.5M high-speed rail project, delivering geotechnical design, analysis, and construction-phase support. In my lessons, I prioritise clear, practical explanations—providing the essential theory without unnecessary complexity. I aim to help students grasp university-level concepts effectively and to guide graduates and practising engineers through real-world geotechnical challenges and problem-solving approaches.

About the lesson

Within the lessons, bearing capacity assessment, settlement analysis, and liquefaction evaluation will be conducted, progressing from theory to practice, including hand calculations. Slope stability analysis will be learnt, and lots of examples will be performed using Slide. Retaining wall and culvert design will be learnt, and real site examples will be solved according to British Standards and Eurocode. Also, design examples will be done using SAP2000. Bridge, viaduct, and overpass foundation design will be covered. Professional geotechnical reports are prepared, and construction methodologies for both substructure and superstructure works are drafted as part of the training. Plaxis 2D methodology will be covered, and lots of examples will be provided. Clear methods, reliable design approaches and practical engineering skills are prioritised without unnecessary theory.
